BEYOND THE JAWS

Networks have traditionally had to reckon with a major problem, in contrast to centralized hierarchies. They have had considerable difficulty in coordinating functions, in focusing resources on specific goals, and in accomplishing a given task beyond a certain size and complexity of the network.”

(Manuel Castells, The Internet Galaxy, p.2, Oxford University Press, 2001).

In particular, he argues that the relationship between innovation and cooperation can be analyzed using 3 principles based on Arthur’s work (1994). What are they? [8/25]
